New for 2026, this unique tour combines both Reims’ Champagne and Military Legacy, in the company of Oz Clarke and battlefield guide Julian Whippy

Discover a region where celebration and history meet in unforgettable ways. This five-day tour of Reims in the heart of France's Champagne region invites you to explore rolling vineyards that produce the world's most iconic sparkling wine, while also stepping into the landscapes that shaped modern history.

Walk among the vines that have defined Champagne for centuries, learn the artistry behind every bottle, and experience the elegance of this world-renowned region. Then, contrast that beauty with a powerful exploration of the First World War battlefields of the Marne, where pivotal moments unfolded and stories of courage, sacrifice, and resilience still echo today.

Joining you for part of the tour is wine expert Oz Clarke, who will deliver a talk and Q&A at your hotel, as well as accompany you along the "Champagne mile", highlighting a number of famous Champagne houses and landmarks before a visit to Chateau Perrier.

This is more than a tour, it's a journey through two sides of the same land: one of refinement and celebration, the other of remembrance and legacy. Whether you're a wine enthusiast, a history lover, or simply seeking a meaningful and enriching escape, this experience offers a rare and compelling perspective on Reims and its surroundings.

Itinerary

  1. Day
    1
    Arrive in Reims
    Reims, France

Travel via Eurostar from London St Pancras to Paris. Upon arrival, transfer by coach to the Hyatt Centric Reims for your four-night stay. After checking in, enjoy welcome drinks and hear an introductory talk from Julian Whippy and Oz Clarke.

  2. Day
    2
    Marfaux & Epernay
    Reims, France

After breakfast this morning, a short coach journey to the southwest of Reims brings us to the Ardre Valley. This important ground, often overlooked by battlefield visitors, bore witness to a key action known as 'The Second Battle of the Marne' between May and July 1918. Here French, British, Italian, New Zealand, American and Russian troops fought among the champagne vineyards around Marfaux. A number of key sites and memorials will be visited as Julian brings the battlefields alive more than a century on.

Lunch will be taken in Epernay. After a convivial lunch and some bubbles together, Oz Clarke will lead the group along the 'Champagne mile' highlighting a number of famous Champagne houses and landmarks before a visit to Chateau Perrier, the Museum of Champagne and Archaeology which was used as a Military Hospital in both World Wars.

Enjoy dinner and the evening at leisure.

  3. Day
    3
    Chateau Thierry
    Reims, France

After breakfast this morning, visit the city of Chateau Thierry on the banks of the Marne River. It was here that a small group of American soldiers held a key bridge over the river, preventing the city from falling into the hands of the advancing Germans in 1918. Visit the impressive ABMC American Memorial overlooking the city and its visitors centre, as well as the infamous Belleau Wood, so fiercely contested by the US Marine Corps on their arrival in France. See the 'Iron Mike' Memorial in the centre of the wood and several discarded artillery pieces, mortars and the remains of trenches before visiting the stunning US Military Cemetery.

After free time for lunch in Chateau Thierry, head back to Reims via a tour of the cellars, vineyards and tasting of a smaller, yet exceptional Champagne producer, the Salmon Family.

Enjoy dinner and the evening at leisure.

  4. Day
    4
    Reims
    Reims, France

After breakfast this morning, begin the day with a visit to the imposing Roman gateway to the city, Port Mars to discover the origins of the city. Take a short walk through the city streets to its Cathedral, a 13th century masterpiece where French Kings were once crowned, with entrance to the cathedral also included. Then, visit the impressive Fort Pompelle, guarding the eastern entrance to the city and now an excellent military museum that saw action in both wars.

Once back in Reims, having had some free time for lunch, visit the famous Pommery Champagne house to view its cellars, art collection and of course, have a tasting.

Enjoy dinner and the evening at leisure.

  5. Day
    5
    Depart Reims
    Reims, France

After breakfast and some final free time in Reims, depart by coach to Paris and your onward Eurostar journey back to London St Pancras.
