Mike is a naturalist and wildlife broadcaster. Passionate about British wildlife from a very early age, his obsession with the tropics began when studying the biodiversity of moths for his Masters' thesis in the Ecuadorian cloud-forests. This then led to over five years carrying out research work in the tropical forests of South America, East Africa and Southeast Asia. Finally returning to Britain to find a job in television, he is probably best known as the wildlife expert on BBC1's The One Show, having appeared over 450 times during his 19 years on the show.
Mike now intermingles TV and radio commitments, tour-leading, writing and giving talks. He is also a columnist for BBC Wildlife magazine, and has written eight nature-themed books, with his most recent being One Thousand Shades of Green - A Year in Search of Britain's Wild Plants.
